Fundraising with CiviCRM

Jessica Kirsner, Secular Student Alliance
Eliet Henderson, San Francisco Baykeeper

In this session we’ll review how two midsize non-profit organizations, Secular Student Alliance and San Francisco Baykeeper, have taken advantage of customizing CiviCRM to implement donor-centered fundraising.

Donor-centered fundraising is a donor management approach based on 10 years of research by Penelope Burk on what donors want from the non-profits they support, and how nonprofits can give donors what they want in order to increase donor giving and commitment to the organization.

Secular Student Alliance has used both existing CiviCRM functions, as well as custom fields, to give donors what they are looking for: prompt, personalized thanks; knowing their gift will be used for something specific; and a report on how their donations are used, before they are asked to give again.

San Francisco Baykeeper has also set up custom fields for managing interactions with our donors and other special contacts, with the goal of making every communication as personalized as possible. Additionally, Baykeeper has especially focused on improving the experience for fundraising constituents: event participants who are setting up personal fundraising pages and activating their networks to fundraise for Baykeeper.

We'll explore how each organization has implemented donor-centered fundraising techniques in CiviCRM.

This session is geared toward non-technical users who want to learn and share best fundraising strategies and tools within CiviCRM.
